Grand Hotel Birmingham Wedding

This could be a very short writeup - 'hands down my favourite bride-getting-in-the-wedding-dress photo of all time' but it's 2025 and Google says I need to write at least 200 words per image for my content to be attractive to search engines... so here we go.

The room Sarah used to get ready in was dark to say the least. I was shooting most of the morning at apertures around f/2 and ISOs between 1600 and 3200 (for the photographers out there.) For years and years I've said however that I'd rather have a little bit of good light than a lot of bad light - it was time to put that into practice.

The best feature of this rather dark room was this single window beside the bed, with natural light pouring in. I asked the bride and maid of honour to squeeze into the space between the wall and the bed as I could see this image being something really special. (I don't often tell people where to stand, or move people around, but when the image looks like this it's always worth it)

Of course me being me, it had to be a black and white. My favourite aspect of this image (aside from the warmth I feel for the people in it, who were both absolutely lovely) is the veil, gently illuminated against the dark background. Poetry.
