I always arrive early before a wedding. A lot of photographers will turn up maybe an hour or so before the ceremony, when things are fairly manic, but I like to get there between 8am and 9am, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it's nice to get to know the bridal party a little. Having spent 5 or so hours with the bride and the bridesmaids before the ceremony, it feels like we really know each other that little more. I always think too that it's better for me to be present and not needed, than be sat at home, missing potential photos. I'd be much happier being present and not taking any photos than not being there and not knowing what I'm missing.
