Manor by the Lake

As soon as the bride and groom had given the venue the nod to indicate that they were happy with how everything looked inside the venue, the wedding guests were invited inside, leaving the bride, groom and myself free to take some lovely photos of the newly married couple around the venue.

Despite the weather for the whole day to this point being hot and sunny, heavy rain clouds started to roll in and imminent rain threatened. We didn't have much time and I didn't want to risk getting the couple caught in a downpour.

The image on the left page is what has become my signature pose. I used a long lens and a wide aperture to make sure that the background was as out of focus as possible, leaving a beautiful smooth swash of green to lift the bride and groom from the page. The wide aperture and long lens combination also makes it appear that the bride and groom are three dimensional. This effect was put to particularly good use on the front cover of the wedding album. I like using this pose so much as it shows off the bride's flowers, the groom's suit and buttonhole flower, the bridal bouquet and the wedding rings on the bride's left hand. I really like how the darker hints of green in the image work for form a natural frame for the bride and groom.

After this photo was 'in the bag' we took a walk around the rest of the hidden lake, capturing natural photos as the bride and groom interacted with each other. The deep greens of the trees and bushes that line the outskirts of the lake really make the bride and groom stand out, and the colours especially work well to set off the blue of the groom's suit.
