Documentary Wedding Photography

Documentary wedding photography is the art of being able to tell the entire story of a wedding without using words, and relying only on the images. The main way this is achieved is through candid or partially staged images - an entire wedding of posed images is showing you the photographer's take on the day, and not necessarily what really happened. It's not as easy as it might sound, and a lot of people struggle with the candid images much more than they do with posed images.

Very few of my images show anyone in any kind of formal pose, looking directly into the camera and attempting an awkward smile (but most people opt to have group photos taken where this is more of a necessity.)

Truly candid moments are always the best, but it's not always possible to get every photo in this way. Pre-wedding, I'm often trying to cover both the bride and the groom at the same time. At venues such as the Wood Norton, where these images were taken, it's quite easy covering both angles - but that doesn't mean that you can't do better with a little direction.
